Venue Spotlight: The Osprey's at Belmont Bay

In March, I had the pleasure of visiting The Osprey’s at Belmont Bay. Until recently I wasn’t aware of this area of Woodbridge that overlooked the Occoquan River. So I was really excited to learn about The Osprey’s and visit this gorgeous Wedding venue. Let me just say, this venue is amazing! When you pull up you have the stunning view of the Occoquan River. It’s just so peaceful and serene and such a beautiful location to say, “I do.” I had the pleasure of meeting Brooke Stokes, the Special Event Sales Manager for the Osprey’s at Belmont Bay. Brooke is amazing! Let me just tell you. If you book your wedding here, you will be well taken care of. They work with each couple to customize the wedding day of their dreams. Brooke and the rest of the staff I met were so friendly and super helpful. You won’t be disappointed.

What is something unique to The Osprey's that you can't experience elsewhere?

Where do I begin? There are so many beautiful aspects of this venue. For starters there are so many possibilities for wedding photos. The waterfront is a gorgeous place to take photos. The view is amazing. The Osprey’s also used to be a golf course. So besides the beautiful waterfront view, you have the privilege of the beautiful golf course and the greenery surrounding it. without the golfers. It's the best of both worlds. On the course there is a cute willow tree that is pretty popular for photos as well. It's right near the 18th hole.

In the past, Bride's and Grooms would have to wait until the golfers were finished or interrupt their game in order to get a photo by the tree. But since then, the Osprey's has been completely converted to an event space. So you won’t have to worry about any golfers being in the background of your images or getting hit by a stray golf ball. Another bonus about the location is its proximity to the Belmont bay marina. So if you're lucky enough to find a boat owner that will let you onto the dock, there's an opportunity for some epic photos.

How far in advance would you suggest couple's to book with you?

The Osprey’s is definitely a popular place to get married. If you visit  and you fall in love with it, like I know you would, book your date as soon as possible. A year to a year and a half in advance is ideal.

Do you have an on-site coordinator?

Yes! They have an awesome on site Wedding Coordinator to help your day run smoothly. Like I said, their staff is super friendly.

Do you have a backup plan for rainy days?

No one wants it to rain on their wedding day. But sometimes it is a possibility and a backup plan is necessary. Luckily the inside of The Osprey's is just as beautiful as the outside and if it does rain on your big day, you have options to have a gorgeous ceremony inside as well. The huge floor to ceiling windows with beautiful light coming in and gorgeous hardwood floors make it a beautiful place to get married.

What about catering? Is there catering on site?

On site catering is not offered so you have the flexibility to choose a caterer that you love and customize the type of food you want to serve at your wedding.

Indoor or outdoor? Where's the most popular place for a Wedding Ceremony?

This question should be a no brainer considering that amazing view. I know if I were to get married here, I would definitely choose to have my ceremony overlooking the Occoquan river. Most couples choose this location as well. It's just so gorgeous!

Do you have space for both the bride and groom to get ready?

I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Osprey's has one of the best bridal suites I’ve ever seen. And I've seen a lot of bridal suites. Since they are no longer an active golf club and exclusively host weddings and events, the old golf club pro shop was converted into the most amazing bridal suite. It is huge! It has tons of beautiful natural light, and it's a beautiful open space.  It’s a great area complete with hair and makeup chairs, a couch, and ample space to enjoy with your bridesmaids before your wedding.

The groom’s getting ready space is amazing as well. It’s located under the bride’s getting ready area and it even has a fun sign that says "Groom’s Quarters." This is probably my favorite groom’s getting ready space ever. It’s a good size; it’s nice and bright and has some great window light. It’s a great place for the guys to hang out, eat, and watch some TV. In my experience, some venues I’ve photographed don’t have a place for the groom to get ready. And if they do, it’s usually a space that’s dark and doesn’t have much natural light. Which is not a bad thing and just requires a little more creativity with lighting. But, when the Bride has a nice bright getting ready room, it helps that the Groom’s getting ready space is similar so the photos will look consistent in the wedding album.

Do you book more than one event at the same time?

No, you don't have to worry about that. They book one Wedding at a time.  Brunch weddings have become more and more popular this year at the Osprey’s. Some couple's are opting to have an early ceremony with a brunch style reception. So if you want a morning/daytime wedding then this would be a great venue for it. If you prefer your wedding to be in the evening, you can do that as well.

If you're newly engaged and looking for a venue, The Osprey's at Belmont Bay is definitely a place to strongly consider. I highly recommend it. To find out more contact Brooke Stokes at events@ospreysgolf.com.
