Dark and Lovely Au Naturale Event in NYC
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the Dark and Lovely Au Naturale event, to celebrate the launch of the new “Dark and Lovely Au Naturale anti-breakage” products. The event was hosted at No. 8 a gorgeous lounge at 357 West 16th Street in New York. The atmosphere was so gorgeous, if you’re ever in the area check it out. DJ Moma provided the music and Chef Roblé provided the culinary goodness! There was a huge turn out at the event and the place was filled with fabulous women with all different textures of curly hair. To be honest, I was a bit nervous going into this event because I didn’t know anyone. However, everyone that I encountered was so nice. I really didn’t have anything to be nervous about being that this event celebrated curly hair; and I can talk about hair for hours, even days.
The guest performer was Marsha Ambrosius. She was so nice and allowed me to take her photo. Obviously I was nervous to meet her and I didn’t know what to say. My mind went blank. I couldn’t think of a word to say to her. Like hey, I love your music, you look great, your voice is amazing; I really love your songs “Far Away,” “Butterflies,” and your duet with Daley “Alone together.” I could’ve said all of those things! But nope, sure didn’t. The only words I was able to string together were “Hi, can I take your picture…thank you.” Fail. Fail big time. I didn’t even get a picture with her. I took my picture, showed it to her, and then disappeared into the crowd. Sigh. Besides my epic fail of an encounter, Marsha sang a beautiful song and also shared about her experiences with the Dark and Lovely products. I hope it wasn’t super obvious that I was so star struck.
Speaking of star struck, I was able to meet Taren Guy as well. I’ve been following Taren’s journey on YouTube for a few years now. She’s been so inspiring to me in so many different ways. She was one of the first YouTube Vloggers that I encountered when trying to embrace my natural curls. But with Taren it’s so much more than that. Her videos are encouraging and focus on not just hair but self-acceptance, confidence, and doing what makes you happy. I was so nervous to meet her. I didn’t know what to say, I just introduced myself, told her I was a subscriber, and that I just moved to New York. Can we say boring!!! Fail again! I completely blanked, I really don’t know when I became so shy, but anyways I hope I’ll snap out of it. It was such a pleasure meeting Taren; she’s inspired me in many ways.
Besides a few socially awkward epic fails, (just kidding…kind of) I’m excited to have left the event not only with amazing curly products that I can’t wait to try, but I also gained some new curl friends! Thanks again to Tami Reed for making this possible for me to attend this event. She has been so supportive of my Photography career and has helped me in so many ways. I am forever grateful for her support and generosity.
Enjoy some of the photos from the event!
