Brooklyn Museum: Jean Paul Gaultier
On Sunday my husband and I went to the Brooklyn museum to see the final day of "The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk." I had been looking forward to this day all week and I was so excited to finally get to see this exhibit. I walked in and everything was so beautiful. The exhibit was amazing. I wish yesterday wasn’t the last day, because I would love to go again. In the first part of the exhibit there were mannequins displayed in a room that was lit up with blue lights. I was looking around and taking pictures of the clothes when my husband came up to me and said, "I don’t know what’s going on, but that mannequin’s mouth just moved." My response was huh? What are you talking about? In my head I’m thinking how on earth is the mannequin’s mouth moving? So I looked up, and sure enough I saw a mannequin blink, look around, and then smile.
It was kind of crazy, a bit scary, but also one of the coolest things I’d ever seen. It made me think of the State Farm Commercial when the mime comes up to a woman and her State Farm agent and starts telling her how much he loves State Farm Insurance. Then the baby says, "Okay, does it bother anybody else that the mime is talking? Freaakyyy!" Haha! That’s how it felt to see those mannequins talking…."Freaakyyy!"
Anyways, aside from the talking mannequins, the garments were AMAZING. I could only imagine how much time went into each piece. The details were gorgeous and so intricate. I was just in awe! It was super inspiring and I hope to be able to photograph garments as amazing as this one day! It was just beautiful! Below are a few of my favorites. Ok maybe it’s more than a few, it’s a lot!
