Central Park Portraits

As a photographer, I’m constantly learning and trying to become a better photographer. If my face is not buried in a photography book, or watching creative live, I’m out practicing new techniques to incorporate into my work.  I’ve been blessed to come in contact with some amazing photographers that are so willing to help me learn and develop this craft. I met two amazing Miami photographers Melissa and Lenny Volturo of Leonardo Volturo Photography in April at the best Photography conference ever; Shutterfest! Since then, we’ve kept in contact and while visiting NYC they graciously decided to teach me about Off Camera Flash. As a newer photographer, Off Camera Flash (OCF) is quite intimidating. But I want to be well rounded and not limited by my knowledge of camera techniques.

I love the idea of controlling light and manipulating it to create beautiful images. With flash, I was able to add complexity to my image that couldn’t be done without it. It’s amazing what you can do when you have the right tools and the knowledge to truly create art. I can't wait to perfect this techniques and incorporate it into some fun projects I have coming up!

I’m so glad my friend Ash was able to come along. She makes a stunning model!

Here are some comparisons with and without flash. The flash adds more depth to the image and makes your subject stand out. I love the shadows that the flash creates. It's a much more dynamic look and adds a little extra spice to the photograph.

The image on the left is beautiful. It's an image I would normally take. But adding the pop of flash makes it more dynamic and makes her stand out from the background.

This is my favorite image. It was taken the same day underneath a bridge in Central park. It's bright sunlight but you can't tell by the picture. I love this technique and I can't wait to use it again!

Special thanks to my friend Ash for being such a beautiful model. Ash is also a Photographer and just launched her new website! Show her some love and go check it out at www.ashergardner.com
